The weather in Spain
The continental climate in Spain is mostly temperate, with hot summers and cold winters in the mountains. The best time to visit Spain is from April to June or from September to October, when the weather is milder.
In summer, between June and September, the temperature rises to more than 30 °C during the day; at night it becomes at least 16 °C. In the winter months you can expect occasional snowfall. The temperature at this time averages 11 °C during the day, but can drop to a cool 2 °C at night.
Here, too, the Canary Islands occupy a special position due to their location off the northwest coast of Africa. The suptropical climate provides pleasant temperatures all year round and makes the region attractive for winter vacations as well.
Tips for the vacation
A specialty of Spanish cuisine is tapas, small appetizers served with wine and beer in tapas bars, where they are traditionally eaten standing up. The selection is huge and varies regionally, and even if they are now no longer served free of charge everywhere – you should not miss this charming way of accompanying drinks.
A traditional Spanish dish that you must try on vacation is paella, a rice dish with vegetables and meat or seafood. Also good to know: In Spain, the siesta is still taken very seriously. Most stores close from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. so employees can take a long lunch break and spend time with their families.
Sights
In Spain there are many sights worth visiting! Among the most popular are the Alhambra Palace in Granada, the Mezquita in Cordoba and the Prado Museum in Madrid, to name a few.
Discover the many facets of this fascinating country: Visit the many museums and cathedrals, or take a walk through one of the beautiful parks. If you are looking for something more active, you can go hiking in the mountains, cycling or do your favorite water sports on the gorgeous Spanish beaches.
